Cary Nelson is the Jubilee Professor of Liberal Arts and Sciences (Emeritus) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He was President of the national AAUP from 2006-2012 and is currently Chairman of the Alliance for Academic Freedom. Dr. Nelson is author of Mindless: What Happened to Universities? (2025) and Hate Speech and Academic Freedom: The Antisemitic Assault on Basic Principles (2024). A prominent scholar and leading expert on higher education, Dr. Nelson has been invited to speak on his new book before the House of Lords in Westminster. He will be sharing his insights with Rutgers JFAS members prior to crossing the Atlantic for this prestigious event.
